Charli xcx - BRAT

Charli XCX promised wild rave and never-ending partying with her new album "BRAT" - and if that's all you were expecting, you're in for a huge disappointment.

If you were ready for a rave somewhere between a panic attack and the next rounds of thoughts about life, and a rave is your mad dancing in an empty apartment - welcome, Brat.

Probably never in my life have I been so pleased by a false advertisement. Charli went all in and, accompanied by glamorous and pulsating beats, began to reflect on life, fame, the influence of the environment, an overabundance of emotions and impermanence. A wild and thoughtless party girl (aka Brat) is a facade behind which it is sometimes easy to hide and pretend that you “don’t give a fuck.” But you do.

For the most part, the album is built on the contrast of sounds, tempos, new and more familiar techniques that we have already heard. Because of this, the album sometimes begins to seem inconsistent, and an involuntary comparison comes to mind with Charli's best creation - the record "How I'm Feeling Now". Without any doubt, I admit that musically and contextually "BRAT" comes very close to "How I'm Feeling Now", but at the end it loses to it due to the lack of composition, which is noticeable against the backdrop of a very tightly packed album, where not a single second is wasted. “BRAT” sometimes allows itself to be frivolous and go wild for no particular reason, but this is also part of its hysterical aesthetic, isn’t it? And even “Von Dutch,” which I didn’t particularly like, was quite acceptable on the track list.

On the album "BRAT" Charli XCX invites you to look into her lonely rave party, which will combine wild partying and cozy nighttime gatherings in the kitchen. Sometimes at the same time. And it will be worth every second spent there.
