JADE – IT Girl

Here’s hoping MUBI or A24 are already lining up to license IT Girl for the soundtrack of their next eccentric project.

IT Girl is JADE’s fourth single as we eagerly await her debut full-length album. The stakes are high, especially after her debut track, Angel Of My Dreams, earned a spot in my top 20 songs of 2024.

With this single, JADE delivers another fragmented musical structure, blending electropop and dance-pop with hints of five other subgenres sprinkled throughout. The result is pleasant, refreshingly modern, but admittedly less striking compared to Angel Of My Dreams. That earlier track showcased greater diversity and cleverly played with unpredictability, keeping me on my toes.

IT Girl feels like it could have been sung by Ava Max or served as a quirky Eurovision entry for, say, Norway. That’s not necessarily a bad thing—it’s polished, catchy, and undoubtedly fun, but it does mean the song lacks some of the individuality JADE has demonstrated in her previous work.

That said, let’s be realistic—this is still a solid effort from a rising solo artist defining her identity. And I have faith in JADE like few others; she truly has the potential to become the IT Girl of the new pop wave.
